FIVE REASONS WHY SOLAR PANELS are STILL AN EXCELLENT INVESTMENT
The press has been dominated in recent weeks by the growing row over the Government’s funding of solar panels.
Reductions in so-called feed in tariffs have led to questions being raised about whether money spent on installing PV for homes and businesses is worthwhile.
But there are FIVE good reasons why investing your money in solar panels is a still a sound decision:
1. IT’S STILL HELPING TO SAVE THE PLANET.
Solar panels on an average family home can save more than two tonnes of carbon dioxide per year – the equivalent of flying from East Midlands Airport to Mallorca and back nearly six times. A typical home in the UK creates six tonnes of CO2 so solar panels can reduce your carbon footprint by a third.
2. IT’S STILL A SOUND INVESTMENT
Freewatt’s solar panels are amongst the most efficient available in the market today and calculations done by the company show the payback period – even with the lower feed in tariff – to be just over ten years. That is three times better than even the leading savings account.
3. IT HELPS WITH THE SALE OF YOUR HOUSE
Studies have suggested that the installation of solar technologies can increase the saleability of a property in a housing market where prospective buyers’ are highly influenced by the cost of utilities.
4. YOUR OWN ENERGY BILLS WILL REDUCE
With fuel prices expected to soar in the coming months one of the big benefits is the lowering of your own electricity bill. Freewatt estimate that an average family home can save nearly £240 a year on their bill and that figure is only likely to increase.
5. YOU WILL GENERATE YOUR OWN ELECTRICITY – AND SELL IT
Home owners with solar panels can generate their own power during daylight hours meaning they are not dependent on the utility companies. They can also sell their surplus electricity back to the energy company. At current figures that is likely to be worth £60 a year – but again liable to increase.
So there are excellent reasons to install PV on your home. But why use Freewatt?
The company, based in Stow, has been established for nearly four years, has a turnover of close to £4 million, employs locally 24 people and has installed all of the largest and highest profile installations in the region.
In 2009 Freewatt installed the largest solar PV system on a listed building in the UK and is now recognised by English Heritage as the Listed building specialist.
All their technology is imported from the leading-edge manufacturers in Germany and their panels generate electricity well above the industry standard.
