about renewable energy
Amongst the generous financial benefits of solar PV, people often forget the main reasons why the installation of renewable energy technologies is important. Within the Climate Change Act 2008 – the UK Government have committed to reducing the UK’s carbon emissions for the year 2050 to levels at least 80% lower than the levels of carbon emissions in 1990.
We need to reduce our carbon emissions to help alleviate the problems caused by climate change. Our climate is changing due to increased levels of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.
Solar PV is environmentally friendly because it generates electricity whilst not causing any carbon emissions. The most common way to generate electricity at the moment is by burning oil or coal to generate electricity – the burning of fossil fuels causing the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
With our school installations, we will include our educational resource pack specifically designed to facilitate the STEM elements of the Key Stage 2 & 3 curriculum. This gives schools an opportunity to embrace the topics of renewable energy first hand with real life data and hands on learning aids. In addition to the educational resource pack, we would recommend the installation of a live monitoring system including a display in a public area. This will enable the school to access live data on how much electricity has been, and is being generated – and what this equates to in terms of carbon emissions and financial savings.
